See what a load, a barrel
or the weather is doing.

Every saved group is one point. Trend plots a measure of group size or velocity against anything that changed between groups: charge, seating, temperature, pressure, or rounds through the barrel.

Pick what to plot

Two dropdowns do most of the work. Metric is what you measure; Against is what changed.

Mean radiusAverage distance of the shots from the group centre.
Extreme spreadWidest centre-to-centre distance between two shots.
DispersionAverage of the horizontal and vertical standard deviations.
Velocity avgAverage of the group's velocity readings.
Velocity SDStandard deviation of the readings. Needs two or more.
Cold-bore distanceHow far the cold-bore shot landed from your aim point. Needs both marked.
Charge, SeatingThe group's own value, or the load's if you never changed it.
Order savedFirst group saved to latest.
Temperature, PressureThe group's own conditions, or its range session's.
Rounds on barrelRounds logged on the barrel up to when the group was saved.
Since cleanRounds logged since the barrel was last cleaned.

Find the valley on a charge ladder

Plot mean radius against charge and the groups that shot tight sit low. Under the chart, Trend names the flattest step: the two neighbouring groups whose values differ least.

That is a quick read, not a verdict. For the run of three or more charges that is least sensitive, with velocity alongside, use the Window tab.

EXAMPLE DATA Mean radius against charge. The valley is between 41.6 and 42.0 gr.

Watch a barrel wear

Set Against to Rounds on barrel and every group lands at the round count the barrel had when you saved it. A slow climb in mean radius is a barrel getting tired, long before one bad group would tell you.

Since clean restarts at each cleaning, so you can see whether accuracy drops as fouling builds. Counts come from the rounds you log on the Rifles screen, and only groups shot on a tracked barrel get a point.

Spot a load that reacts to heat

Plot Velocity avg against Temperature or Pressure to see how a load responds to conditions. Temperature and pressure come from the group itself, or from the range session it belongs to, so you enter them once per outing.

The Spline chip smooths a curve through the points. It passes through every real value and only softens the joins. It is offered for velocity because a smoothed line through group sizes would suggest a continuity they do not have.

Look inside the velocity numbers

Turn on Box plot with Velocity avg and each group becomes a box: the whiskers are the slowest and fastest reading, the box runs from the first to the third quartile, and the bar inside is the median.

A tall box shows an inconsistent charge before it shows up as a wide extreme spread. Here the 42.2 gr group has a big range although its average sits right on the trend.

Narrow it down, or compare loads

With more than one rifle or barrel, Rifle and Barrel dropdowns appear at the top and narrow everything below. Filter holds Load, Tag and Range. A line of words beside the button says what is active, so a chart never quietly shows a subset.

When the plotted groups come from more than one load, Trend draws one line per load, each in its own colour that stays the same as you change metric. Load-development profiles are kept out unless you pick them in the Load filter.

Good to know

  • Each point is a single group with at least two shots. Composite groups are not plotted.
  • You need at least two points. If there are fewer, the tab says what is missing, such as a charge on the load or a temperature logged.
  • Cold-bore distance only plots groups that have both a cold-bore shot and an aim point.
  • Units follow your Settings: millimetres, centimetres or inches, metres per second or feet per second, and so on.
  • Trend is a Pro feature, free on your first 3 days of use. After that, everything you already saved stays viewable.
